You will begin your adventure early in the morning, leaving Cusco and heading to “Pilcopata” in a private “Pilcopata” in a private transportation. The first stop will be in “Paucartambo”, a typical colonial village with narrow streets and a beautiful colonial church, lunch en route. After breakfast, we will look for the interesting Cock of the Rock, Peru's national bird that makes a unique courtship ritual. We continue to the town of Pilcopata*, then to the port of Atalaya, a place located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River, at 700 meters above sea level, from where we will begin the descent by boat to observe the enormous diversity of existing bird species, such as herons, vultures, cormorants, etc. until we reach our Private Reserve “Erika”. We will walk through the interesting trails of this transitional point between high and low jungle. Overnight at the lodge. Free optional -Canoeing: From Pilcopata we will do 1 hour of canoeing on the Koñeq and/or Alto Madre de Dios rivers. We enjoy the scenery and take the opportunity to refresh ourselves.

After breakfast, we will board our boat to cross the river and walk 30 minutes along a trail to observe and talk about the diversity of flora such as sensitive plants, heliconias, fruit trees, etc. until we reach the Machuwasi lagoon where we will paddle in rustic canoes to observe birds such as the primitive hoatzin, hopefully caimans, monkeys and capybaras. Night walk around our lodge to observe insects and amphibians.

On the last day of the trip, you will start the day off early to board a motorboat that will head downstream to the “Collpa de Loros” (Parrot Clay Lick). You will observe various types of parrots that call this area home. Parakeets and macaws (among others) gather here every morning to feed on clay. After this activity, you will return by boat to the lodge for breakfast and packing. Finally, you will travel upriver to Puerto Atalaya, where your transport will be waiting for you to return to Cusco. Arrival in Cusco is approximately between 19:00 hrs and 19:30 hrs. End of the tour!
